Events

Wokingham Lions Club organises a number of amazing local events throughout the year.

There are big events such as the May Fayre and the Winter Carnival, which not only provide entertainment but also allow local businesses, charities and community groups to raise funds and connect with local people.

We organise events that allow people to get sponsored for their participation, allowing them to raise funds for their choice of charity – the Wokingham Walk and the Wokingham Lions Swimathon are examples of these.

Finally we have entertainment events including the Wokingham Music Club, #WOKY Comedy Nights and our famous #WOKY Quiz Nights – all designed to give you a good night out while raising funds for the Lions to use to support many local charities.

Wokingham Music Club - Bruce Juice - The Springsteen Tribute Band

Wokingham Music Club – Bruce Juice – The Springsteen Tribute Band

Sep 5, 7:30pm

The Whitty Theatre

From Bruce Juice you can expect an ‘E-Street’ experience that captures the unique seven-piece band line-up that reproduces the original arrangements from the 1970s Wild, Innocent and a slow, bluesy ‘E Street Shuffle’ as well as the iconic anthems from the ‘Born to Run’ tour.

More gems from the 1980s capture the crisp, rasping sound of the ‘Professor’s’ piano, Federici’s organ and Clarence’s sax from ‘The River’ tour, as well as a few stadium foot-stompers from the ‘Born in the USA’ tour.

See them live here: www.facebook.com/BruceJuice53/videos/1504358923597900

The term ‘tribute band’ doesn’t really fit – it is just that there isn’t another word. They are not trying to pay tribute to Bruce as if he has won an award or passed away. Instead, they absolutely LOVE his music and everything about the energy and passion with which he and the E Street Band deliver unforgettable shows.

Bruce Juice aim to take a strong flavour from Bruce’s live performances and combine them with legendary arrangements mixed in with the rich texture of the E Street Band and give audiences a Springsteen-inspired experience full of E Street magic – delivering a high-energy show inspired by Springsteen, to send you home with a strong injection of Bruce Juice!

Wokingham Music Club - Acoustic Beatles Shambles

Wokingham Music Club – Acoustic Beatles Shambles

Sep 12, 8:00pm

Royal British Legion Winnersh

A group of musicians who put equal emphasis on "acoustic", "Beatles" and "shambles".

The Acoustic Beatles Shambles grew from a chance meeting at an after hours music session at a Watlington pub. It is not a Beatle tribute band as such. There are no electric guitars, no drums, and no pretensions to be a slick note-for-note reproduction. Rather it reflects that Beatle songs have become a folk music of our time. The audience is involved in choosing from the 188 original and 25 cover songs recorded and released by the band between 1962 and 1970. The spirit of the Beatles is particularly reflected in the blend of the voices of 4 people spanning generations who all grew up loving the music.

Wokingham Music Club – Andy Fairweather Low and The Low Riders

Nov 21, 7:30pm

The Whitty Theatre

Andy Fairweather Low came to prominence as the lead singer in Amen Corner. The 60s saw them clock up hit after pop hit. Songs such as 'Bend Me Shape Me', 'Hello Suzy', '( If Paradise is ) Half As Nice' are internationally remembered to this day. But if you were paying close attention, you might have picked up a clue in their first single the magnificent ‘Gin House’ as to Andy’s future musical collaborations.

Since the early days Andy has gone on to work with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, David Crosby, The Band, Elton John, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, The Who, BB King, Joe Cocker, Steve Winwood, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Joe Satriani,, Jeff Beck, The Impressions, Lonnie Donegan, Mary J. Blige, Georgie Fame, Bonnie Raitt, Otis Rush, Van Morrison, Chris Barber, Jackson Browne, Bill Wyman, Sheryl Crow, Pete Townshend, Kate Bush…… and literally hundreds more.

Now following a solo path, his first solo album in 24 years Sweet Soulful Music was released late in 2007 followed by The Very Best Of Andy Fairweather Low which was released in the UK in June 2008 with a Live DVD following hot on it’s heels.
In fact Andy has been touring and releasing CD Albums ever since and has built a strong following having now released 10 Albums including Two Live DVD shows and a Three disc Box Set DVD / Double Live CD which debuted in the Amazon Box Set Top 50 in it’s first week of release. A double live vinyl “Lockdown” Internet concert followed and his CD & Vinyl release Flang Dang recently debuted which in February 2025 was superseded by The Invisible Bluesman on Blue Vinyl, CD & Download.

Wokingham Music Club - dS:uK …in Tribute to Dire Straits

Wokingham Music Club – dS:uK …in Tribute to Dire Straits

Dec 20, 7:30pm

The Whitty Theatre

Saturday 20th December 2025 | The Whitty Theatre (Wokingham Music Club)

DS:UK are BACK with one of their most popular tours – “Brothers in ’85”.

In 1985, Dire Straits were at the apex of their career as one of the biggest music brands and concert touring bands in the world. Still today, Mark Knopfler remains one of our most beloved guitarists in modern Rock.

Their biggest album, Brothers in Arms, still sits in the top 10 of the best selling albums in chart history, and 2025 sees 40 years since the release of this seminal album.

“DSUK…in tribute to Dire Straits” began touring in 2016 and have quickly become regarded as *the* quintessential tribute band among Dire Straits fans with their incredible attention to musical and sonic detail, the humour, fun, and interesting history that they pack into their shows.

To say that “dS:uK” sound like Dire Straits is an understatement. And don’t take it from us – take it from our audience on the streets:

“…these guys are the epitome of a tribute band: they play and sound like you want to them to…”

“…Thank you for a great evening in Worthing this week. Being a fan of Dire Straits for the last 50 years, you did not fail as a tribute band…”

Their 2025 “Brothers in 85” tour, once again, pays tribute to the worldwide Brothers in Arms tour, with the band bringing fans the ultimate 1985 Dire Straits experience and all of those legacy songs that you want to hear, including Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing!

Here comes Johnny singing oldies goldies…. itʼll truly give you a shiver in the dark!

Donʼt miss it!
