Friday 17 May 2024: #Woky Comedy Night
Our series of comedy nights at Wokingham Theatre continues:
As always there will be four great comedians:
David Ward (MC) is a regular at our comedy nights, an is recognisable from BBC Three’s We Are Klang. He is one of comedy’s most sought after presenters, writers and comedians. His upbeat warmth and spontaneity has made him the choice host for the heats for both BBC’s New Comedy Awards and C5’s So You Think You’re Funny? and corporates all over the UK, with a speciality in business and sports events and awards.
Robert White worked his way up the stand-up scene, starting in 2004 and found early success as a finalist in the prestigious Hackney Empire competition 2006, he has gone from strength to strength and in 2010 won the Malcolm Hardee main award at the Edinburgh Festival. He now is a sought after act who regularly performs in big clubs, little clubs, those in-between, theatres and festivals around the UK and abroad, after gaining 2nd Place Britain’s Got Talent – 2018.
Stephen Grant is one of the UK’s funniest, hardest working and most respected comedians. Whether entertaining full-size theatres, voicing animations, warming up TV audiences, presenting radio shows or hosting corporate award nights Stephen never fails to pull in the laughs.
Omar Badawy started stand up in 2019 and, in his first year (+global pandemic), went on to win the prestigious ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ award at the Edinburgh Fringe. He talks about his encounters with strange school friends, football fans and EDL-badge-wearing bouncers, providing unique insight from a childhood moving from Egypt to Wales to Cambridge.
THERE AREN’T MANY SEATS LEFT. Book yours, at a cost of £18 each, by clicking here
For future reference there will be more Comedy Nights on Fridays 4 October 2024, 15 November 2024, 28 February 2025, 4 April 2025 and 16 May 2025
Saturday 15 June 2024: Classic Motor Show
Saturday 7 September 2024: Swimathon
The Wokingham Swimathon is a community event which allows teams of swimmers to raise funds for their nominated organisation or charity and having fun at the same time.
It will be held in the Wokingham Leisure Centre and there will be capacity for up to 30 teams of up to 8 participants. We invite local companies, clubs, families and groups of friends to enter teams. We hope teams will arrange sponsors so they can raise money for their chosen good causes. To enter a team please click here.
There is a nominal charge of £25 per team. Each session lasts 50 minutes. Team members swim in relays, with each adult swimming two lengths and children swimming one length. It’s not a race, but teams can seek sponsorship for the number of lengths completed in the session time.
You can download a sponsorship form here
A big thank you to the management team at the Wokingham Leisure Centre and Places Leisure, the company that runs the centre, without whom we couldn’t run this event.
Sunday 8 September 2024: Beating the Bounds
‘Beating the Bounds’ was an ancient practice carried out to ensure the knowledge of parish boundaries was maintained and passed from generation to generation. This involved swatting local landmarks with branches to maintain a shared mental map of parish boundaries.
This new free event is being organised by Wokingham Town Council and Wokingham Lions Club, and features a route to walk as much of Wokingham town’s boundary as possible. This will be approx. 16 miles following most of the perimeter of Wokingham Town Council’s administrative area – the exact boundary cannot be walked due to inaccessibility in some areas. For people wishing to walk not quite as far, there will be a shorter walk of approx. 7 miles taking in parts of the Town Council boundary to enjoy.

Note that children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
