Helping To Prevent Sight Issues In Our Children
The Sad Facts
- Up to 10% of children have an undiagnosed vision problem
- Approximately 5% of all Early Years children will have a condition called Amblyopia, or ‘Lazy Eye’, a treatable disorder that can result in permanently reduced vision if not addressed at an early age.
- 90% of vision issues can be corrected if detected early
- Whilst it’s a statutory requirement in England that all Early Years children have a Health Screening (height, weight & vision) when they start school, this currently only happens in 55% of schools.
What the Lions can offer
- Lions Child Sight UK aims to ensure that Early Years children in schools across the UK have access to vision screenings using the latest camera technology
- By working directly with schools, the program aims to detect potential vision problems at a young age, allowing children to receive the necessary care for optimal development.
- This initiative, which is completely FREE to all schools, seeks to make screenings accessible and routine, helping prevent undiagnosed vision issues from impacting children’s learning, confidence, and future success.
- UK Lions Clubs aim to screen over 100,000 children in 2026, helping them get the eye care they need for better learning and development.

NB Lions Child Sight UK Screenings will only be conducted in a school setting initially.
