Wokingham Lions Club makes regular donations to support the work of local charities from the funds we raise from running local events. We also contribute around 10% of what we raise to LCIF, the Lions Club International Foundation.

We are happy to support individuals or families in need of help, but we need referrals from organisations such as social services or doctor’s surgeries. If you think we can help please contact us.
Golden Awards
Our Golden Awards Scheme started in 2024, the 50th Anniversary of the Club. The scheme is continuing to run, in it we continue our spirit of giving with awards of £500 each to support local charities and community organisations that wish to start a new initiative and need help with funding.
If you are involved with a local charity or community group that you think would qualify for a Golden Award then please complete an application form.
Charity Support Stories
Wokingham Lions Club is one of the four local service groups that organise Wokingham Fireworks which this year has raised £31,000 for local charities!
The Presentation Evening for the proceeds took place on Tuesday 2nd December at Wokingham Town Hall. Members of the four service clubs that make up the Wokingham Charitable Fireworks Trust, Windsor Forest Unicorn Club, the Rotary Club of Wokingham, Easthampstead Rotary Club, and Wokingham Lions Club attended, as well as representatives from the charities receiving donations and other supporters of the 2025 Fireworks Event.
Each service club picks a charity to support and Wokingham Lions choose BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support) - here you can see Gareth May, President of Wokingham Lions, and representing BIBS, Liz Josef and Sam Harris.

Wokingham Lions Club recently made a £1000 donation to Autism Berkshire to support a new initiative for autism-friendly climbing sessions at Dinton Pastures Country Park activity centre. We've just received this wonderful report on how the sessions went:
We received excellent feedback from parents about the chance for their children to try climbing in an autism-friendly setting and as a result ran four after-school climbing sessions at the activity centre in October and November.
Each session was attended by five children of primary school age, who came from seven different families. Six of the families live in the Wokingham Borough area, while the other lives just over the boundary in Reading.
The atmosphere during the sessions was very relaxed, which was ideal for autistic children.The centre’s staff, who were already trained to support people with additional needs at their own SEND climbing sessions, were calm and clear with their instructions. They adapted activities to suit each child, depending on their ability and experience, with optional challenges available to those who wanted to try them.
Here are some examples of the feedback we received from the families:
“This was really brilliant! Thank you so much. It was a real joy to see my boy grow in confidence over the course of the session - and he wants to go back!”
“We attended three of the sessions and D loved it. He tried climbing somewhere else before, but it was more challenging at Dinton and he did it! Most important, he was very tired afterwards and slept better than usual.”
“My daughter really enjoyed these sessions. The environment is just right for an autistic child – quiet and understanding. She liked ‘rescuing’ the teddy bears that were hidden on the climbing wall."
We are delighted that the sessions got such a positive response and that we had the chance to find out whether there was an interest in climbing among families we support. Many of the potential benefits for children’s health, motor skills and co-ordination are similar to those we see in the children who attend trampolining.

Wokingham Lions Club have recently made a donation of £500 towards the purchase of an incubator for Herbie Hedgehog Rescue who run a rehabilitation centre for sick or injured wild hedgehogs.
The incubators are an important part of the recovery process for many hedgehogs, and once recovered they are able to be released back in the wild.
Through our fundraising at events like Wokingham Winter Carnival & May Fayre and Wokingham Fireworks we are able to support many local charities like this.
