May Fayre 2018

The Wokingham May Fayre will take place on the Bank Holiday, Monday, 7 May and promises to be a very lively day of family entertainment.  It is believed to be the largest street fair in the south of England, attracting thousands of people.  The event takes place in Peach Street and Broad Street, where a variety of stalls are set up.  The fun starts at 10am and continues until 5pm.  Admission is free, but there is a small charge for some activities.

The main goal of the May Fayre is to provide a low-cost and fun family event, and enable local charities and other groups to raise money for their causes.  Andy Slay and his team organise the May Fayre, which is the club’s biggest annual fund raising event.

The May Fayre is a wonderful day out for families and people of all ages.  There are charity, craft and trade stalls, and a chance to win a prize at some competitions. Among the many activities this year are Punch and Judy shows, magic shows, morris dancers, animal farm, fun fair rides and circus scene performers” says Andy Slay, chairman of the May Fayre Committee.

There will be stage performances throughout the day in Broad Street including Saint Sebastion Band,  the Hot Potato Syncopatios (an international comedy cabaret act), a juggling show, the Rock Choir and various singers and dancers. Throughout the day, Circus Scene Street Entertainers will be roving through the town.

We are very grateful for this year’s sponsors for the May Fayre.  They include the Wokingham Town Council, Prospect Estate Agency, The Wokingham Society plus a number of other local businesses” says Andy.

The main beneficiaries from the May Fayre will be the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance
